The PS5 would be launched
according to a calendar comparable to that of the launch of the PS4, according to the comment of an official of Sony. If this is confirmed,
PS5 release date
it means that the console presentation conference could take place by the end of February or the beginning of March 2020.
The news had gone relatively unnoticed PS5
But in early February, during a question and answer session in the wake of the announcement of Sony’s financial results, the group’s vice president suggested that the launch schedule would roughly match that of the PS4. The PlayStation 4 had been announced at the end of February 2013, for a launch in November, effectively in time for the holiday season as Sony also promised with the PS5 .
Mikio Hirakawa, analyst at Bank of America-Merril Lynch, had indeed taken advantage of the Q&A session following the announcement of the results to ask group vice-president Hiroki Totoki: “The PS5 must be launched during the sales period for Christmas and New Year. So when can we expect it – in March 2021? You have also not revealed a price for the PS5. So what about the estimate of an exit in April of the next fiscal year? “.
Response from Hiroki Totoki:
“It is very difficult to really discuss this timing, but today I will advise you to refer to a shooting window comparable to the past. So we will not change the calendar ”. Meanwhile a shower of rumors had suggested a presentation in the first half of February – rumors which turned out to be incorrect.
This comment from a Sony executive
has at least the merit of suggesting that we should hear about the console long before the holiday season. The fact remains that beyond Sony’s initial plans, the crisis stemming from the coronavirus epidemic may well, in the end, disrupt the launch of the PS5 .
